The stresses and strains of modern life take their toll on all of us from time to time, but if there’s one thing that the world – and all of us in it – need a little more of, it’s kindness. We all try to be compassionate and empathetic toward others and take the time to add in little touches, special experiences and nice surprises for others, but in order to best look after others, you need to look after yourself too.
Treating yourself with a little kindness should be something you do every day, but it can be difficult to know where to start. Whilst we’d all love it to mean spending thousands on new outfits, jetting off on exotic holidays or checking into a spa every week, it can be much simpler than these big-ticket items, and need not break the bank or the schedule while you’re at it!
These three small things will help you nourish your body, spirit and soul a little better in day-to-day life moving forward.
Give yourself permission
As responsibilities stack up and your life feels hectic, it is all too easy to prioritise others and activities over yourself. Giving yourself permission can be hugely powerful to your wellbeing, in whatever form you need. Give yourself permission to take time off. Give yourself permission to say no. Give yourself permission to feel, to experience and to be (we have a related blog article about this here). You are enough and you are powerful. Embrace that, and give yourself a little leeway from time to time… you’re only human, after all. We can’t do or have it all, all of the time!
Plan… in balance
Having a set schedule, plan or itinerary is a lovely thought, but doesn’t always work out in reality. Using a flexible journal such as the Ponderlily planner allows you to set out your intentions and goals without putting emphasis on over-exertion or the aspirational need to do everything all at once. Instead, you can plan your errands, responsibilities and life whilst keeping in consideration your well being, spiritual strength and physical and mental health. You can keep life on track and not lose sight of yourself in the mix while you’re at it. This positive and healthy approach is realistic but fun and mindful. What’s more, you can download additional printable inserts from the Ponderlily website here to start your journaling journey whenever suits you best.
Wallow in gratitude when you can
Looking back over life events, loved ones and your experiences promotes happy feelings, invokes positive memories and allows you to be humbled and grateful for everything going on in your life, however big or small. Even on darker and more difficult days, reminiscing on positivity can be a shining light. It doesn’t take a lot of time and just a few minutes spent looking over old journals, photos, notes or videos can brighten your whole day and make you smile when you need it the most.
A few moments of kindness toward yourself daily is invaluable, so do what feels right for you and reap the benefits of a more well-rounded and happier mental outlook and mood.
