The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

This book, selected for the Reese Witherspoon book club list, is a fun and light read - perfect for poolside. The story starts with journalist, Nik Paterson attending a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game with her boyfriend and his “bros.” In the middle of the game, her actor boyfriend (of only five months) drops down to one knee and proposes, everything displayed on the jumbotron. Shocked, Nik ends up turning down her boyfriend, booed by a bunch of fans. Two bystanders, Carlos Ibarra and his sister come to her rescue to get Nik out of the stadium and back to the real world.

A video of the whole proposal encounter goes viral and Carlos ends up helping Nik navigating through all of the craziness. In between it all the two end up hanging out more constantly and one thing leads to another… Okay we can’t give the whole book away, but it's a good one to add to your list! Nothing too heavy with this one, but something light to enjoy in between sips of your favorite drink on the sand.

The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg

This book helps readers understand why habits are the core of everything we do and how important it's to create good habits. It also highlights how to make changes to habits that no longer serve you. When you develop habits, it helps you free up mental space! Great for personal and business development, be sure to add this one to your list for the summer if you want to develop positive habits to propel you forward!

Another Reese Witherspoon book club pick, this fiction novel follows the story of Kya Clark and is set in the 1950s North Carolina. Kya is referred to by the locals as “Marsh Girl” so when a dead body is found in the marshes, Kya is the prime suspect. The plot follows her childhood and how it has shaped her perspective and actions to her present day. This crime drama has multiple layers of character development and keeps you engaged to the end!

Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts. By Brene Brown

I recently watched Brene Brown’s Netflix special, The Call to Courage and LOVED the message of it. I wanted to dig into more of Brene’s work so I purchased Dare to Lead. This book shares practical ways for change makers to step up and lead in their everyday lives. While is is another non-fiction pick for your summer reading list, there is so much to get out of this inspiring and motivating book!
